Installing Buddybuy and getting your first group discount live takes about five minutes. You do not need to touch your theme code at any point.
Open the Buddybuy listing and click Add app. Approve the requested permissions. Buddybuy is free, so there is no plan to choose and no billing screen.
Go to Online Store › Themes › Customize, open a product page template, and click Add block in the product section. Choose Buddybuy Room. Save. The widget now appears on every product that uses that template — no theme code editing.
In the block settings, choose how the room appears: a slide-in drawer, a floating bubble, inline within the page, or a modal. Drawer works well on most themes; bubble is the least intrusive on dense product pages.
Set the theme to Storefront so the room inherits your existing colours, or pick one of the built-in dark, light, pink, mint and peach themes. A custom colour option is available if you need an exact brand match.
Choose Auto to follow the shopper's browser language, or fix it to English, Urdu, Hindi, or Roman Urdu. Right-to-left layouts are handled automatically.
In the Buddybuy admin, add a discount rule and set its conditions — minimum number of members in the room, minimum cart total, and the products or collections it applies to. Set the discount percentage. The rule is applied at checkout through Shopify Functions, so shoppers never enter a code.
Open a product page, start a room, and copy the invite link. Open that link in a private window or on your phone so you join as a second member. Vote on a variant, add something to the shared cart, and confirm both sessions update and the discount appears at checkout once your rule's conditions are met.
The most common mistake is applying a group discount store-wide on day one. Start narrow and widen it once you can see what it does to order value.
Run through the room once as a shopper would, on a phone rather than a desktop, since most invite links are opened on mobile.
Tip: test the invite link in a private window rather than a second tab. A normal second tab shares the same session, so you will not see what a genuinely new member sees.
Check that the Buddybuy Room block was added to the product template you are actually using. Stores often have more than one product template, and adding the block to Default does not affect products assigned to a different one.
Confirm the room meets every condition in the rule — member count, cart total, and product or collection scope. All conditions must be met at once. Also check whether another discount is already applied, since Shopify's combination settings decide whether two discounts can stack.
This is usually a connection issue rather than a configuration one. Confirm both members are in the same room — the link must be the room invite link, not the plain product URL, which starts a separate session.
No. Buddybuy is a Shopify theme app extension. You add it as a block in the theme customizer, and it appears on your product pages without any code changes. Removing the block removes it cleanly.
It works with any Online Store 2.0 theme, which covers all themes in Shopify's current theme store. The room can inherit your storefront colours so it matches without configuration.
Every room has a shareable link. A shopper opens the room on a product page and sends the link through WhatsApp, Messenger, or any other channel. Anyone who opens it joins the same live room.
Through Shopify Functions at checkout. When a room meets the conditions in your rule — member count, cart total, product or collection — the discount is applied automatically. Customers never type a discount code.
Yes. Each discount rule can be scoped to specific products or collections, so you can start with one category and expand once you have seen the effect on margin.
